Traffic Overload Control in a Fully Distributed Switching Environnlent

چکیده

We examine a traffic overload control scheme which has been designed to meet the demands of a loosely coupled, fully disributed switching architecture. In the architecture considered, each module in the system is identical and consists of a processing element and associated port boards. Each processing element monitors its own congestion and periodically adjusts its own control levels, independently of all other modules. Sim ulation experiments and supplementary analysis are used to study the performance of the distributed control scheme.

Wireless Networks Revenue Optimization through Overload Control with Priority Services

Wireless networks are currently experiencing more overload situations than their wireline counterparts because of explosive mobile traffic growth, unpredictable traffic behavior, service differentiated traffic shedding, etc. Even though extensive research work on network overload control in general is going on, the economic aspect of the overload problem has received very little attention. Mana...

A Distributed Traffic Control Scheme for Large-Scale Multi-Stage ATM Switching Systems

This paper describes a distributed traffic control scheme for large multi-stage ATM switching systems. When a new virtual circuit is to be added from some source lineinterface unit (LU) to a destination LU, the system must find an optimal path through the system to accommodate the new circuit. Conventional systems have a central control processor and control lines to manage the bandwidth of all...

Traffic Control in Wormhole Routing Meshes under Non-Uniform Traffic Patterns

Nonuniform traffic patterns can severely degrade the performance of wormhole-routing mesh networks in multiprocessor systems. For example, under a temporary hot-spot traffic, a saturation tree might build up temporarily within the network resulting in a temporary network overload that will delay messages substantially. To the knowledge of the authors, no mechanisms were proposed in the open lit...

An Architectural and Evaluative Review of Implicit and Explicit SIP Overload Handling

Last year’s trend to migrate circuit-switched voice networks to packet switched Internet Protocol (IP) based networks has favored wide deployment of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) based systems and networks. As a reaction to large-scale SIP deployment experiences in the field and the need to implement high availability and reliability within these new networks, the focus of SIP extension sta...

Robust Multi-class Signaling Overload Control for Wireless Switches

Mobile Switching Centers (MSCs) in wireless telecommunication networks must implement signaling overload controls to maintain acceptable performance during periods of high load especially due to fast changing hot spots resulting from user mobility. An MSC’s signaling load comprises a variety of service requests, some more important than the others, and it must treat them differentially under ov...
